Ever notice when you look back through your photos that you’re rarely in them? Often we mothers are the ones taking most of the photos. It’s partly because we want to freeze time & remember how crazy cute our children are. It's also because we tend to be with our kids more than anyone else.

As a photographer myself, this is my constant conundrum - I have so many pictures of my life, the people I love, the places I've traveled to. But I’m hardly ever in any of these pictures. It’s not that it really bothers me immediately, but as time passes on and these pictures act as little portals for my memories, I want to be IN them! Hey - I was there too!

It has to be said here, that my husband is an amazing person. And he’s arty & talented too (gush gush). Over the years he’s become really good at taking pictures (by proximity to me, it was bound to happen right!?). He takes lovely images of our son when they’re spending time together. So between the two of us we have tons of great shots of our kid. It’s me who takes pictures of the two of them, father and son. And so, I have to make a conscious effort to hand my husband my camera (or anyone close by if need be).

It’s a wonderful feeling to look at the photos of me with my son over the years. But the real reason I make sure I’m in our family photos, is for him. It’s so he can always look through our photos and see both of his parents loving him up and doing life together. It’s for his memories & reflections, just as much as it is for mine.

Whether it’s your camera or your phone, please mamas, I encourage you to hand it over! You’ll be so happy you did. I promise.
