BETWIXT, Artist Project 2024

Cotton, Mulberry Silk, Horsehair, Repurposed Fabric Remnants.

BETWIXT is a deep dive into the inherent tension of separation and unity within human relationships. Viewers are invited to engage in a woven interplay between connection and detachment.

Two contrasting panels highlight the tension between the bonds of connecting and the harsh reality of separating, summing up the paradox within human relationships. Can we find a transformative power in embracing the natural fray, and in our own ability to let go?

Viewers are invited to get up close to this work and step in where there is physical space to explore.

KEEP GOING, Artist Project 2023

Interactive installation, 6 handwoven panels suspended

6 woven panels, each 8 ft x 3 ft

“Keep Going” seeks to reveal the process of change and personal growth.

Will we allow experiences to change us? The piece invites the possibility of a transformational moment. By physically moving around the series of hanging fiber panels, viewers have the opportunity to find a new perspective. They’re invited to move through something, and through that movement, have their own experience of progression. The artwork is a portal asking the viewer to witness themselves as they decide how to view the work, where to focus, and whether they’re willing to be transformed.

SAWYER SUNSET x GLADSTONE HOUSE

"Textile artist Jen Arron’s massive wall hanging “Sawyer Sunset,” named after the Algonquin Park lake, is a showstopper."

SAWYER SUNSET, 7X10 ft, 2021

Sawyer Sunset is a “woven skyscape”, a commission which is currently installed on the ceiling at The Gladstone House Hotel, in Toronto. To learn more, please watch this 8min short film “The Making of Sawyer Sunset”

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Sawyer Sunset is Jen Arron’s answer to the question: “What does it feel like to experience a sunset in the middle of a lake in Algonquin Park?”

To viscerally understand the piece, the viewer is invited to immerse themselves in this woven paradise, to ‘go somewhere’ and ‘get lost in’ all of its moments, both bright and discrete. It’s an opportunity to expand perceptions, to move through them, to join the artist on the journey.

This is an invitation to wrap ourselves in the knowing truth of nature. To play in nature’s majesty, fly with the constant shift and change, bend and twist with the colours. Surrender to the natural rhythms, and lose the convention of time. Each full moment is an entire sunset in itself.

The piece is best experienced while laying in bed.
